Not much is known about The Parlophonics, according to an article from a little over 10 years ago they are/were (we don’t know) a German based duo (Rob and Rae), but one glance at their Facebook page’s about section it just says Rob! What ever happened to Rae? Well we don’t know about that either. What we do know is that in 2009 (according to Spotify) they released a song called “Staring At The Sun”. What do we think of it? Here goes!
The song has a classic start with an acoustic guitar and some electric tones, wasting no time getting straight to it. There sound is very Brit-Pop, for 2009 this would be quite dated but in our opinion we feel it adds a distinct level of charm to it.
The instrumentals are pretty decent with keyboards adding a good foundation to the sound, the acoustic/electric blend is giving it a classic sound as well. The vocals are pretty decent however we can’t help but feel that it’s a bit too high up in the mix? Perhaps a remix/remaster would serve this song better? The guitar solo is quite decent with some good phrasing that sets a certain mood to this track.
It’s a decent effort from them. It’s been a while since they have released anything, we wonder what they’re up to now!
“Staring At The Sun” by The Parlophonics was released in 2009, you can listen to it on Spotify and YouTube. You can also follow The Parlophonics on Facebook.
