Love Me In The Dark (LMTID) is Steve McCormick and Heather Donavon. The two met on stage five years ago in Venice, CA. That chance encounter changed their lives forever. On February 14th 2020, they released their self-titled debut album.
Love Me In The Dark creates music inspired by Americana, Folk, Soul and Roots traditions. They dovetail vocal blends of harmony and melody, beautifully crafted vulnerable lyricism, ethereal slide guitar and meticulously designed songwriting and production to create an emotionally rich experience for the mind, body, and soul. LMITD believes that, in this day and age, there is a need (and corresponding audience) for themes of vulnerability, tenderness, love, hope, compassion and gratitude. Therefore an effort has been made to speak to these themes as authentically as possible, bringing their own personal backgrounds to
the table. Steve is an audiophile who not only produces records, but builds microphones and other studio equipment, while Heather is a “sound healer”, a vocal coach and “crystal alchemy bowl practitioner”.
Heather’s father was diagnosed with Stage Four Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma just weeks before they met. It was a very uncertain time for her family, upon which she returned to North Dallas, Texas to help with her mother and father with her fatherʼs chemotherapy treatments. During these months, Steve was a constant friend and emotional support and he wrote the song, “Circle Up The Wagons”, in tribute to her family during this time of crisis. After Heather’s father remarkably recovered, she returned to Venice, California. With a new clarity around her purpose, this marked the beginning of their “real-life-not-so-Hollywood” love story and became one of the greatest blessings to come out of
this hardship.
The music wasn’t something Steve or Heather were really aiming to do together, as each had their own individual careers as songwriter/artists and both wanted to just focus on their budding relationship. Yet as destiny would have it, over time these songs needed a place to come through and so began the writing journey together, over many candle lit nights of tea and red wine. In 2017, their “greatest song” came into this beautiful world, their baby boy, Donovan.
Love Me In The Dark is out now. The album also features Kebʼ Moʼ, Jeff Young (Jackson Browne), Eric Heywood (Ray LaMontagne, Jayhawks, Calexico), drummers Michael Jerome (Richard Thompson, Better Than Ezra, Shelby Lynn), Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks) and Steve DiStanislao (Crosby Stills and Nash) and Niki J Crawford (Kebʼ Moʼ, Niki J Crawford Band). This album was produced by Steve McCormick. It was recorded
and mixed at McCormickʼs “McCormick Audio” studio in Mar Vista, CA, with additional recording at Shangri La Studios, Malibu CA, and Jackson Browneʼs Groove Masters in Santa Monica. It was mixed by Johnnie Burik and mastered by Ron Boustead (Resolution Mastering).
