Nick Sumner & The Assistance are a band who “are working to stand among contemporaries like Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell on the shoulders of giants. Crafting intricate songs that bleed from an Americana heart but kick with the grit of New York City” or so their Spotify bio tells us. On July 3rd 2020, they released a single titled “Look Out Below” – what did we think? Here goes!
Here’s something we haven’t heard in a little while, a fade in! It’s not too long, it’s not too short of a fade in – it’s just right. Cool reverb on the toms too! “Look Out Below” wastes no time at all. The initial vibe reminds us of Coheed and Cambria, but the difference here is that Nick Sumner & The Assistance’s sound is much better (sorry, not sorry). The track is beautifully produced, exquisitely mixed and mastered to a high standard. No element gone amiss, no moment overly-saturated. This track is absolutely fantastic.
