Ranzel X Kendrick is back with a brand new EP titled “Foreglow”, released on August 17th 2021. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, check out our previous review! We’ve taken a listen to the first track of the EP “Cross My Heart”. What did we think of it? Here goes!
The track is acoustic through and through, it’s very interesting to hear the pan-job done on the guitars and vocals as it paints a much wider picture on this audible canvas. The flow of the song as a whole is nice, and that’s just it. What seemed rather odd was the fact that the beat was panned far to the left of the overall mix, it would have served the track better to have it slap bang in the middle so that everything else is built around it. Lyrically, it’s sweet and the vocal performance throughout is fairly solid with only a few moments that raise a concerned eyebrow.
Overall, the track is a fairly well produced piece of music. It’s pretty much easy listening for the masses, though to us “muso nerds” that beat on the far left is a confusing choice by whomever made that decision – not enough to kill the song but certainly to bring it down perhaps half a peg (if we’re being pedantic). “Cross My Heart” is certainly worth at least a spin, though it’s up to you if you want to do it again.
