Ashley Puckett is an artist from North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. On February 14th 2020, Ashley released an album titled “Never Say Never” from this album we took a little listen to the second track “Live Like You Love”. What did we think? Here goes!
The track kicks off with some cymbals before a few guitar layers takes us off for this audible journey. What is immediately noticeable is how, despite everything else sounding top-notch and killer by anyone’s standards, the drums are completely off. This brings the entire thing down massively and it is completely disappointing since (as we’ve just said) everything else about this is a solid two thumbs up. The guitars have great tone, the bass locked into the pocket and Ashley’s vocals are produced and mixed exceptionally well. Lyrically, there is a lot of power and feeling involved fitted quite well to the melody.
Quite frankly, while there is a lot to love about the track – there is no way anyone can ignore these drums. Not only are they entirely out of time with everything else, but the Lo-Fi sound of them does not fit the mix at all. It just sounds cheap when compared to the rest of the elements within the track. In order to make this tune palatable, get rid of the drums from the start and get a real drummer (or at least a plugin of some kind) to come in around the pre-chorus for the rest of the tune. In the grand scheme of things, there’s not a lot to change but the impact it would’ve had could be enough to remedy this.
