ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: PEROXID

Two’s great, but three’s a crowd – huh? Not really. Many jazz artists play as a trio as did the famous rock group Cream (Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce – in case you didn’t know). However one that you may not have heard of (yet) is PEROXID.

PEROXID is a group formed of brothers Gilles and Charles, and Viktor. The band found their roots as early as 2005 when the brothers would play together on tunes from the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment. Five years later in 2010, Viktor joined along in the brother’s musical journey. After many years of recording at home, PEROXID self-produced and recorded their debut EP “We Are? Are We!” which was released in 2016.

A few years later in 2019, the band finished work on their first album titled “Rocket Girl”. The thirteen-track album was released worldwide on May 23rd, 2019. The album is a superb listening experience, with tracks like “Closer to the Sun” and “Why so High” sitting in your head for days. It really is a well polished and produced debut that really sets the bar high for other bands to follow. The band performed on and wrote all tracks and track 6 “Why So High” features guest vocalist Ninon Möhl. Tracks 2, 3 and 10 were mixed by Daniel Wierczeiko, the others were mixed by Philipp Schmidt. The artwork for the release was done by Elizabeth Kroglov and Chris Leipold.

Currently the band does not perform together much. This can be expected given the fact that all three of them live in separate countries, though they do occasionally get together to shoot music videos. FEATURE: "Too Lit To Quit" by Justice Soul

In January 2020 – pop artist, Justice Soul released his latest track “Too Lit To Quit”. According to the artist, the song is a commentary of how modern culture has been consumed by social media. From “fronting”, entitlement to fake images – we are all victims in Justice Soul’s eyes. As he puts it “thrown in blind from the dial up days”. Whatever your perspective, he has a point.

Produced by Bobby Crane, the track is an eclectic mix of sonic scapes that makes for an interesting listening experience. You can hear the previously mentioned themes raised throughout the entire track. Often themes like this are bravely approached by many artists and too frequently they fall flat, the common cause is they try and fit too many lyrics to make a point. Justice Soul nails it, the lyrics flow well with the melody and nothing feels out of place while listening to it.

We’d be surprised if this wasn’t charting over the next few months! This is definitely alternative, but not by much. If you’re looking for an ear worm, you’ve got it with “Too Lit To Quit”

FEATURE: "Truth" by Dubgee

Coming right outta Vancouver is Dubgee. Who is Dubgee, you may ask? Well he is a rapper, beatmaker, producer, record label owner (Beast Van Records), supervillain (as Doug Tree), hustler, band member and “VR implementer” – this is just the list we got from his social media accounts but nonetheless it would look good on LinkedIn, that’s for sure!

Now, on June 7th 2019. Dubgee released his debut album “Truth”. An eclectic mix of sounds and different stylings all the while returning to rap. It is always an impressive feat releasing an album, when done properly – which has been done in this case.

The rhymes and bars don’t feel forced. It may very well be the case that Dubgee spent a lot of time thinking it out (we certainly couldn’t do it). However, as the tracks roll on – you get what Dubgee was trying to say. The instrumental track “Coffee and C.R.E.A.M.” is a nice break all the while pertaining to the same groove that keeps this album alive, though we wish it was longer.

Looking at the stats, the fifth track of the album “Gotta” has proven to be the most popular on Spotify with almost eight-thousand streams! Followed in second by “Truth” at six-and-a-half thousand streams and trailing in third is “Lunch Break” with a little over a thousand streams. Clearly there’s something here and we hear it with every track that passes on this album, you know that Dubgee has got something.

Overall, it’s a solid release. Though, this is something that we feel would primarily sit better with rap fans as a whole. The instrumental track kinda breaks from it but if Dubgee’s goal is to reach a wider audience than the over-saturated Rap market, more of that may do well to reach new audiences. We don’t have the answers, but we can think of a couple of questions.

FEATURE: "Rebirth" by Juan Sánchez

Juan Sánchez is a music producer, composer and pianist from Barcelona, Spain. From his musical beginnings at the end of the 80s during his time at the Conservatory at just fourteen years old to his start with making instrumental electronic music prior to the turn of the century. He’s been busy!

In March 2019, he released a single titled “Rebirth” that was well received by fans both new and old. The single has received almost 250,000 streams on Spotify. Following this success, he released his album also titled “Rebirth” on September 2nd, 2019. A 9 track release full of soundscapes that is perfect for almost any occasion.

“Rebirth” is a pleasant listening experience, much to what anyone can expect from piano/neo-classical stylings. However, it is clear that those who worked on this took their time and really shaped this release to run with absolute clarity and consistency. Truly well mixed and mastered.

This release is for everyone, not just fans of the aforementioned genres – but those who never really take the time to listen to this kind of music outside of films, TV shows and other such media. Really delve into this realm with Juan Sánchez’s “Rebirth”

FEATURE: "Boomerang" by Nadia Vaeh

Alt-pop artist Nadia Vaeh releases “Boomerang,” an emotional recounting of her experiences being in an abusive and co-dependent relationship — set to a potent, soaring synth-pop instrumental. In honor of this message, Vaeh will be donating the proceeds of “Boomerang” to Peace Over Violence, an organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence. The single is now available for download and streaming on digital platforms worldwide.

“When trapped in this relationship, I was broken,” explains Nadia Vaeh. “This song is about being stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts and behaviors.” The title is a metaphor for how the abused partner in a relationship can feel compelled to keep coming back despite their better judgment. The second verse, however, suggests a turning point, “Can’t keep this circle alive — still dizzy from the last try; time to live with no fear.” Vaeh, who was able to move away from the relationship and change her life for the better, wants to inspire others to do the same. “Our past can shape us, but need not control us. We are more than our pasts.” As part of this aspiration, she will be donating the proceeds of the song to Peace Over Violence, an organization dedicated to supporting survivors who are rebuilding their lives after moving past abusive relationships. The weighty subject matter of the song is complemented by polished, emotive production courtesy of Dion Shaw and Tyler Spratt (Saint Motel, Moby, Dave Matthews Band). Vaeh’s somber vocal melodies move in harmony with captivating piano and strings, backed by drum loops, ascending synths and buzzing bass lines. The track is incredibly well polished and fit for a spot in everyone’s playlists!

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Nadia Vaeh’s love for music and singing began at the age of two and was nurtured by her parents. Her mother, a poet who shared her love of words and ultimately inspired Vaeh to be a lyricist, passed away when Vaeh was seventeen years old. This shift in her life led to a self-destructive period where she strayed away from music. With endless resilience, she returned to artistry and grew into a performer, creating her own voice and sound. Her music has been played on international radio and she has written over a hundred songs combining elements of pop with R&B, reggae, and Middle Eastern music. With influences such as Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, and FKA Twigs, her sound is a unique collection of pop and personal experience. Through her music, she hopes to help others heal and make waves all around the world.

FEATURE: Disciple Brothers – "Loves Coming (Here It Comes, There It Goes)"

Disciple Brothers, or otherwise referred to as “VIM” (Violations In Music), are a collective of musicians, producers & artists whose primary focus on music is the mood and not genre.

On January 2nd, 2020 – the collective released a single titled “Loves Coming (Here It Comes, There It Goes”. At the time of this writing, the track has received almost 2,300 streams on Spotify. A good start.

The track is a throwback with modern twists, sonic soundscapes that are sure to keep you listening on repeat. It’s a rare quality that many artists try to do, few pull it off. Disciple Brothers nail it. The track guest features “sTash” (not to be confused with Slash of Guns N Roses). A well produced and well polished single that has a place in everyone’s playlist for sure. Whether you’re a fan of rock or not, this track is definitely worth a listen at least!
